A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man who allegedly killed one innocent victim and wounded two others in a bungled underworld hit.

Ahmed Al Azzam, 25, died in hospital three days after he was found seriously injured in his parked car following an early morning shooting at Greenacre, in southwest Sydney, on July 23.

Two other people, a 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, were wounded in a separate car parked about 50m away.

Four people were charged with playing various roles in Al Azzam’s alleged murder on Wednesday, but investigators said the gunman was yet to be found.

Police said detectives probing the Greenacre shooting applied for and were granted a warrant for the arrest of Anthony Pele, 22.

Investigators believe Pele opened fire on both of the parked cars in an attack linked to the Haouchar crime gang, which wrongly thought the occupants were members of the rival Comancheros who were planning an ambush.

The 22-year-old was thought to be overseas and was wanted over “alleged serious and violent offences”, police said.

Anyone with information about where Pele could be found was asked to contact police.

Three men have been charged with Al Azzam’s murder, while a fourth is accused of being an accessory before the fact of the killing.

They were among eight people arrested in Sydney and on the Central Coast on Wednesday in simultaneous raids that police said had helped effectively dismantle the Haouchar gang.
