She suffered significant blood loss and was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious, but stable condition.

“(There) was blood everywhere. It looked like a murder scene,” one witness said.

“It was something that no one should ever see in their lives.”

Another witness said he heard “a lot of loud screaming and crying”.

7NEWS understands the victim does not live at the property, but was there to clean the home.

A woman who does live at the property is being checked by paramedics for shock.

While bystanders could not stop the attack, they did manage to trap the animal using a shovel.

The dog was secured by a handler and seized as police investigate.

Anyone with any information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
