A woman has been hit and killed by a truck in front of her teenage son on a major road in Sydney’s southwest.
Leonia Picone was killed at the intersection of Cowpasture Rd on Horsley Dr, Wetherill Park about 6.30am.
Picone, 55, was standing near a prime mover and trailer after what police said was a minor collision between the heavy vehicle and her sedan, which was being driven by her 17-year-old boy, a learner driver.

Picone was struck when the prime mover moved forward, police allege.
“The pedestrian was on the road attempting to get the attention of the driver of that vehicle,” NSW Police Inspector Josh Dixon said.

She was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
“It’s absolutely horrendous for the family,” Dixon said.
Meanwhile, the learner-driver behind the wheel of the car was treated for shock after witnessing his mother’s death.
Other family members rushed to the scene, which has been described by locals as a known trouble spot, and were pictured comforting the teen.

The 51-year-old male truck driver was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
He was later arrested but released overnight. No charges have been laid.
A crime scene has been established and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
