Three children — aged three, seven and nine — were inside the house at the time.
The intruders ran up to the children’s room, but by then their mother had hidden them in a wardrobe.
“Everybody (was) scared,” the children’s grandfather told 7NEWS.
Over a period of about seven minutes, the intruders threatened the father in the house and demanded cash before leaving empty-handed.
A neighbour said the man rang their doorbell a short time later, telling them his house had just been robbed.

“He said, ‘I’ve just been robbed’,” the neighbour said.
“He goes, ‘we’re fine, the kids are fine, everybody is fine’.”
Police established a crime scene at the house.
An Audi Q5, which was seen on CCTV pulling up to the house shortly before the home invasion, was set alight 5km away in Greenacre about 20 minutes later.

Police are working to establish who the intended targets were.
The intruders remain on the run.
