A 34-year-old cold case has been re-opened by police hoping for answers about a Sydney father whose remains were found years after he disappeared and was likely murdered.
Ultimo man Paul Norton, 31, was last seen on April 9, 1989, after spending the day with his sons at Leichhardt Oval watching a Parramatta Eels versus Balmain Tigers Rugby League match.
He was reported missing by his girlfriend days later on April 14, 1989.

She told police he was last seen wearing a red and white striped shirt, grey trousers and grey and tan coloured shoes.
At the time of his disappearance, Norton, who grew up in Young in regional NSW, worked as a butcher.
Weeks following his disappearance, on May 2 1989, Norton’s car, a blue 1981 Commodore sedan, was found at the Hertz Car Rental in the Sydney Airport Domestic Terminal in Mascot.

A 1996 inquest into his disappearance determined Norton was dead and his death was likely the result of a homicide, motivated by his alleged involvement in Sydney’s drug trade.
In October 2007, human remains were found at Kurnell in Sydney’s south and were later formally identified as belonging to Norton.
The case is currently being investigated by homicide squad detectives under Strike Force Durali, with a fresh appeal for information being made.
So far, detectives have drawn links between Norton’s suspicious disappearance and likely murder to a series of underworld killings in Sydney in the 1980s.

Norton’s sister, Margaret Brown, said she hoped the fresh appeal would provide some answers for their family.
“Paul and I were one of six children, and with only four of us remaining, we love to find some answers about what happened,” Brown said.
“Even though it’s going back many years, we’re asking anyone who might have information to contact police.”
At the time of his disappearance, Norton was described as being of Caucasian in appearance with a freckled complexion, about 165cm tall, of thin build with brown hair.
Anyone with information about Norton or his death is urged to contact police.
