However, the car rolled backwards into the police vehicle and then drove off.

NSW Police allegedly chased the 35-year-old male driver along Parramatta Rd for over an hour on Sunday night and Monday morning, during which he allegedly reached speeds of up to 140 km/h.

PolAir, the Traffic and Highway Patrol and Raptor Squad officers were called in to assist with the chase, which ended in Ashfield.

At one point, the chase was suspended due to the man’s alleged dangerous driving. PolAir continued to monitor the vehicle.

Police said the vehicle crossed to the wrong side of the road and even mounted the footpath several times.

The vehicle crashed into a pole and came to a stop at the intersection of Liverpool and Parramatta roads at Ashfield about 1.10am on Monday.

While the driver was being arrested he allegedly bit several police officers leaving minor bite marks.

The driver was restrained and transported to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he remains under police guard.

Another officer was taken to Westmead Hospital for a minor leg injury.

There have been no reports of injuries to members of the public.
