Two women remain in hospital, one with serious injuries, after a car and bus collided, sending the car crashing into a roadside bus shelter in Sydney’s inner west.

A woman was sitting, waiting for the bus, when the Mazda hatchback crashed into the bus stop near the corner of Victoria Rd and Westbourne St in Drummoyne about 8am Tuesday.

The 25-year-old suffered leg, arm and head injuries when she was hit by the Mazda and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Witnesses told 7NEWS the Mazda hatchback clipped a four-wheel drive before rebounding onto the bus and latching onto it, with the bus then dragging the car into the shelter.

The driver of the Mazda was trapped in the wreckage as Fire and Rescue NSW worked to cut her out of the vehicle.

She was taken to hospital in a stable condition with arm and neck injuries.

Fifteen people were on board the bus when it crashed, but there were no further injuries.

The driver of the four-wheel drive was assessed at the scene but deemed fit enough to drive away.

The cause of the crash is not yet clear but investigations are continuing.

Motorists experienced significant delays as a result of the incident.

Two of five city-bound lanes of Victoria Rd were closed at Westbourne St, with city-bound traffic queued back on to the Gladesville Bridge.

Motorists were advised to allow plenty of additional travel time and exercise caution with emergency services and traffic crews on site.

City-bound buses on Victoria Rd were delayed and buses missed the stop on Victoria Rd after Wolseley St.

Traffic was back to normal about 10.40am.
